Summer Fun Guaranteed At StockSport

Stockport is getting ready to host a fantastic festival of sport later this month, and runners are catered for with three events planned...

Stockport town centre will come alive on 26 June with road racing and fun activities for all the family at the brilliantly-named StockSport 2022. Organisers are inviting people to come and join this celebration of running with events suitable for all ages and abilities.

The StockSport 10K is the biggie - a chip timed event on mixed terrain that takes in the historic town centre and marketplace before heading out to Vernon and Woodbank Parks and beyond into the Goyt Valley Nature Reserve. This route lends itself perfectly for those who want to challenge themselves over a longer distance or those who are looking for a social run in the countryside.

If a 10K seems just a little too challenging then the StockSport 5K is perfect for those graduating from Couch to 5K or for speed demons who like to challenge themselves over the middle distance. The 5K also has a mixed terrain route taking in the historic town centre and marketplace before heading out to Vernon and Woodbank Parks.

This is a family-focussed event so there is also a kids race - My First Mile, which is ideal for younger children and families to enjoy together. The town centre route is buggy friendly so babies to grandparents can take part together.

StockSport has been built on the success of the Enduro and Urban 5K and has transformed into an even greater activity-based event, with the addition of free fitness classes, multi games areas plus much more. All the races will start and finish in the family-friendly event village at St. Peter's Square in the heart of Stockport town centre and there will be a warm-down area led by local yoga guru David Glover from Bendy Yoga.

Why not gather up family and friends and enjoy everything StockSport 2022 has to offer. As well as the Running Festival, an animated Event Village will offer a wide variety of free, fun activities and giveaways for the whole family all related to running, cycling and more. Later into the evening the town will transform itself into a racing circuit for the StockSport 2022 Criterium, a first for Greater Manchester – imagine the Tour of Britain but on a 1K looped circuit around the town centre.
