A Weekend Of Running Begins On The Monsal Trail
The Monsal Trail Half Marathon and 10K launch a weekend of racing through the spectacular Peak District National Park...
This relates to: Monsal Trail Half Marathon & 10K Autumn Saturday
The Monsal Trail Half Marathon and 10K return to Bakewell on Saturday 24 October, opening a weekend of racing on one of the Peak District National Park's most celebrated routes. Organised by Nice Work, the Saturday programme is followed by identical Half Marathon and 10K events on Sunday, giving runners the opportunity to race on either day or make a full weekend of it.
Starting from the former Bakewell railway station, the route follows the historic Monsal Trail, a former Midland Railway line that has become one of Derbyshire's most popular recreational routes. Along the way, runners pass through four atmospheric railway tunnels, cross the spectacular Monsal Viaduct and enjoy far reaching views across the Derbyshire Dales as the landscape takes on its autumn colours.
The event is described by the organisers as a mixed terrain race, combining the unique character of the Monsal Trail with an undulating course that rewards steady pacing as much as strong running. The beautiful surroundings and traffic free route have helped make the event a favourite for runners of all abilities, whether they are preparing for an autumn marathon, tackling a Half Marathon or 10K, or simply looking to experience one of England's most scenic running venues.
Every finisher receives a bespoke medal and free official photographs, while trophies are awarded to the leading runners. The welcoming atmosphere and choice of distances continue to attract runners from across the country to Bakewell each October.
With entries remaining open for both the Saturday and Sunday races, runners still have time to secure a place. Whether choosing one race or taking on the challenge of both days, the Monsal Trail weekend offers a memorable way to experience one of Derbyshire's most iconic landscapes.
