Beverley's running calendar gains a new addition this month as a road closed Half Marathon takes runners from the heart of the historic East Yorkshire market town into the surrounding countryside.

Organised by RunThrough, the inaugural Beverley Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 23 August, with the 9:00am start and finish both located in Saturday Market.

It promises to be an attractive combination of town and country. Runners will pass Beverley Minster before heading through the open green space of Beverley Westwood and out onto quieter country lanes. The route then brings the field back into Beverley for a town centre finish.

The road closures should give runners plenty of opportunity to settle into their pace, with each mile marked along the course and a three hour cut off providing a generous window for those tackling 13.1 miles.

There are some useful practical touches too. Beverley's railway and bus stations are within walking distance of the event village, secure baggage facilities will be available and water will be provided around the course.

Finishers receive a themed medal and post race goodies, with chip timed results and official race photographs also included.

For runners looking for a late summer Half Marathon, the first edition offers something a little different: a chance to race through one of the East Riding of Yorkshire's best known market towns before escaping onto the surrounding country roads.

And with Beverley Minster, the Westwood and Saturday Market all forming part of the experience, this newcomer already has a strong sense of place.
