Meanwood Valley Trail Race Returns To Leeds
Popular seven mile trail race returns to the woods of Leeds...
This relates to: Meanwood Valley Trail Race
The Meanwood Valley Trail Race returns on Sunday 23 August 2026, inviting runners to tackle one of Yorkshire's best-loved multi terrain races through the woods, parks and valleys of north Leeds.
Organised by Valley Striders, the approximately seven mile race starts and finishes at Old Leo's Rugby Club before following an undulating route through Adel Woods, Scotland Woods and Meanwood Park. The varied course combines woodland trails, open parkland and technical sections, creating a rewarding challenge that has earned a loyal following since the race was first established in 1996.
Along the way, runners pass beneath the impressive Seven Arches viaduct, negotiate the famous tunnel beneath the Leeds Outer Ring Road and run past the local landmark known as the Slabbering Baby. These distinctive features have helped make the race one of the most recognisable trail events in West Yorkshire.
The event is organised entirely by volunteers from Valley Striders, one of Leeds' largest and most active running clubs. Over the years the race has not only become a highlight of the local trail calendar but has also raised thousands of pounds for charitable causes, reflecting the club's strong commitment to supporting the wider community.
With water stations, changing facilities, showers, baggage storage and refreshments available at race headquarters, runners can expect a welcoming atmosphere from start to finish. Trail or fell shoes are strongly recommended to make the most of the woodland terrain.
The Meanwood Valley Trail Race is about much more than simply covering seven miles. Twisting woodland paths, short sharp climbs and constantly changing scenery demand concentration as well as fitness, rewarding runners with an experience that feels adventurous from start to finish. For anyone looking to explore some of Leeds' finest green spaces, it remains one of the city's standout trail races.
