A record 13,000 runners will take to the streets of Newcastle on Sunday 5 July as the AJ Bell Great North 10K celebrates its biggest event yet.

The popular city centre race continues to grow in popularity, with organisers increasing the field from 10,000 runners in 2025 to accommodate unprecedented demand. Fewer than 100 places remain available, giving runners one final opportunity to join what promises to be the largest Great North 10K ever staged.

Starting and finishing on Great North Road, the route passes many of Newcastle's best known landmarks, including Grey's Monument and the iconic Tyne Bridge. Thousands of spectators, live music, charity cheer points and entertainment zones will line the course, creating the vibrant atmosphere for which Great Run events have become renowned.

The event also marks the beginning of a busy summer of running in the North East, with many participants using the race as preparation for the AJ Bell Great North Run in September. Runners of all abilities will be on the start line, from those tackling their first 10K to experienced athletes chasing personal bests.

Community remains at the heart of the event, with Newcastle United Foundation once again partnering with Great Run through the popular Black & White Wave, while Newcastle College will also have a significant presence with participants and volunteers supporting race day activities.

Among the thousands taking part will be runners with inspiring personal stories, including participants overcoming serious injury, major health challenges and those discovering running later in life. Together they will help make the 2026 AJ Bell Great North 10K another memorable celebration of running in the heart of Newcastle.
