Go Wild At The Big Bear Run This Summer
New Yorkshire 10K combines closed roads, countryside running and bear conservation...
This relates to: Big Bear Run
If your race calendar could do with something a little more... bearable, then the brand new Big Bear Run might be exactly what you're looking for. Making its debut on Sunday 16 August 2026, this fun-filled 10K combines a scenic closed road race with the opportunity to support an important wildlife conservation project.
Starting and finishing within the beautiful grounds of Askham Bryan Wildlife & Conservation Park near York, the England Athletics licensed event follows a picturesque countryside loop through the villages of Askham Richard and Bilbrough before returning to a memorable finish in front of the college's impressive main building. The route is chip timed and suitable for runners of all abilities, whether you're chasing a personal best or simply enjoying a summer morning on quiet Yorkshire roads.
The event is about much more than running. Every entry helps support Project Moon Bear, which works to rescue and rehabilitate Asiatic black bears that have suffered through the illegal bear bile trade. Runners also receive admission to Askham Bryan Wildlife & Conservation Park after the race, offering the chance to meet many of the park's remarkable animals and learn more about its conservation work.
Expect plenty of personality throughout race day, from the distinctive bear themed finisher's medal and post race cake to the welcoming atmosphere created by Curly's Athletes and their team of volunteers. The organisers have built a reputation for delivering events with a genuine community spirit, where having fun sits alongside achieving your running goals.
The Big Bear Run promises to be one of the North's most distinctive new races for 2026. Closed roads, beautiful countryside, a unique venue and an important conservation message come together to create an event that is every bit as memorable as its name suggests.
So, if you've ever fancied earning a medal with a bear on it, helping to protect real bears and enjoying a fantastic Yorkshire 10K at the same time, this could be the race you've been waiting for. Just don't be surprised if the event proves to be... un-bear-lievably popular.
