The Great Cumbrian Run returns to Carlisle on Sunday 4 October 2026 with its popular Half Marathon, 10K, newly officially measured 5K and Family Fun Run, offering race day opportunities for runners of all ages and abilities.

Celebrating more than four decades of running history, the Great Cumbrian Run has been Cumbria's leading half marathon since 1982. Starting from Mayors Drive, runners will once again enjoy a memorable route through Carlisle, while the 5K receives official measurement for 2026, adding another accurately measured race to the event programme.

The event is delivered by Better in partnership with Sport in Action, bringing together one of the UK's largest charitable leisure organisations and an experienced local events team. Their shared aim is to provide a high quality race experience while encouraging more people to enjoy running and supporting healthier local communities.

Alongside the Half Marathon,10K and 5K, the timed 1.1 mile Family Fun Run provides a fun and accessible option for all ages. Whether chasing a personal best, completing a first race or enjoying a family day out, runners can choose the distance that best suits their goals.

This year's event also supports a number of local charity partners, including Eden Valley Hospice, Every Life Matters, Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland, and ICAAN. Participants and spectators are encouraged to support these organisations, helping raise awareness and vital funds for services that make a real difference across Cumbria.

With its rich history, varied race programme and strong community focus, the Great Cumbrian Run continues to be one of the North West's flagship running events, welcoming thousands of runners to Carlisle each autumn.
