Pink Moon Half Returns
Women-only trail half will once again be staged on the picturesque trails around Sutton Scarsdale...
Just days after International Women’s Day celebrations around the world, a trail running event dedicated entirely to women is preparing to return to the Derbyshire countryside. The Pink Moon Ladies Trail Half Marathon will take place on Easter Saturday, 4 April, with the women only event entering its second year following a successful debut in 2025.
Inspired by the April full moon known as the Pink Moon, the race offers a challenging but scenic off road route beginning through woodland at Sutton Springs Wood before climbing onto the Five Pits Trail.
Organised by Lunar Trails, the 13.1 mile race will see runners will tackle a series of undulating trails with views across the Derbyshire countryside before reaching a turning point aid station and heading back along the same route to the finish.
Organisers say: "The event was created to celebrate women in running while providing a supportive and welcoming environment for participants of all abilities. Beyond the racing element, the event places a strong emphasis on community and encouragement among women runners.
"Participants are expected to finish well before dusk and will be welcomed back with hot drinks and cake beside a campfire, creating a relaxed and sociable atmosphere after the run."
The race also supports a cause closely linked to women’s wellbeing. Funds raised from the event will go to The Elm Foundation, a charity that supports women and families affected by domestic abuse. Organisers are also planning to make the day family friendly, with several spectator friendly spots along the route and the possibility of additional activities including an Easter egg hunt for younger supporters.
