Queen's Platinum Jubilee inspired MK Marathon Medal

Royal road to success at the MK Marathon Weekend

A Queen tribute band entertained everyone at this Platinum Jubilee running event with a festival feel.

The famous concrete cows kept an eye on proceedings at the MK Marathon Weekend (1-2 May) as runners passed by them on their way to a big stadium finish. Adults and children participated in one of five races flanked by cheering crowds and received a themed medal with a regal flourish.

There was plenty to see and do at this action packed, two day running event, whilst commemorating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Runners of all ages and backgrounds took part in the Marathon, Half Marathon, Relay, Rocket 5K and Superhero Fun Run. Any runner unable to attend at the weekend had the option of the Virtual Turing 10K to be completed by 18 May.

We had lift off on Sunday (1 May) at the Rocket 5K starting at 9am from the Milton Keynes Centre and finishing outside the Stadium MK. A fast, flat course made it perfect for a PB and trophies were presented to the top three men and women. There was the option to run this followed by Marathon Relay or Half Marathon the next day.

Monday 2 May saw the turn of the Half Marathon, Full Marathon and Marathon Relay in the spotlight. These AIMS-certified, BARR Gold accredited races sold out beforehand and were well organised, marshalled and supported affairs on a town and country course. Runners enjoyed their moment of triumph with a victory lap of the Stadium MK and saw their efforts on the big screen as they crossed the finish line.

Results from the Rocket 5K, MK Marathon and MK Half Marathon are available via the runABC website.

The Superhero Fun Run was a winner as families dressed as their favourite Marvel or DC character and soaked up the atmosphere. They ran or walked the 2.6K course and were rewarded with a rather appropriate Hulk medal.

A medal featuring a crown-wearing bovine, finishers t-shirt and a goody bag were fitting rewards for everyone's marathon achievements at this top drawer event.
