Fractured Marathon promises a cracking good run!
Individuals and teams keen to lap it up on a summer’s evening.
Entries are open for the 2022 Fractured Marathon on 17 June where the aim is to run 10 x 2.6 mile laps over 5 hours in an adrenaline-fuelled atmosphere (but don't tell the sheep - it'll just worry them). Solo runners and teams will have that ‘Friday Feeling’ at 7pm as they start their ‘lapathon’ and continue long into the evening...
The Grade I listed Calke Abbey plays host again to this marathon festivity from Peak Running that was an instant hit at the inaugural event in 2019. A break (excuse the pun!) in 2020 was followed by a successful Fractured Marathon in 2021 and expectations are high ahead of the 2022 event. After more than two years of Covid, runners are ready to let their hair down at this unusual and fun filled race that begins in daylight and ends at night-time with a marathon under their belts.
Here’s the interesting bit: each lap starts every half hour on the hour so if you want to achieve the magic 26.2 mile distance you have to complete each lap within that time frame. Alternatively, run as many or few laps as you wish.
There are those who get into the spirit of things and wear fancy dress which adds to the occasion. It is down to personal choice but actively encouraged and could be rewarded!
Teams can be male, female or mixed and contain a minimum of two members up to a maximum of five. Expect speedy laps from the solos and teams as the competitive urge kicks in along with the fact there are prizes for the fastest accumulated marathon in these categories.
