Virtual Cheddleton 10K medal

Festive favourite Cheddleton 10K returns with 2020-style format

Christmas pudding run serves up a virtual offering

The perennial favourite for runners, Cheddleton 10K has been changed to a virtual event due to Covid-19 and will take place over the weekend 27 November to 1 December. No puddings for finishers this time who receive a tasty looking medal instead.

This year was to be the 37th outing for Cheddleton 10K or the ‘Pudding Run’ as it more commonly known that has been organised by Stan Winterton and the Cheddleton Local Commitee since 1985. The race fundraises for Cancer Research UK who like all charities has been affected by the pandemic resulting in a drop in income whilst demand for their services continues to rise. All proceeds from the virtual Cheddleton 10K will go to this charity.

In normal times or BC – ‘Before Covid’, the race attracts a mixture of top athletes, club runners and newcomers where they complete three laps on traffic-free, country lanes around the village of Cheddleton in the Staffordshire Moorlands. Every runner is presented with a Christmas pudding at the finish hence the name of the event.

In the virtual race, participants complete 10K or two miles if doing the Family Fun/Walk on a measured course of their choosing. They submit evidence of this and once verified, are rewarded with what Stan Winterton calls: “A lovely Christmas pudding medal”. There is a competitive element that includes a trophy for the winning male and female plus a shield for the fastest boy/girl (under 16) in the two mile run.
