NE school ‘races’ to celebrate 90th birthday with XC for all
To celebrate their 90th birthday this year, Lathallan School near Johnshaven will be hosting an ‘unmissable’ cross-country event open to all on Sunday, 15 March.
The ‘Lathallan 9.0’ will begin and end within the 60-acre grounds of the school’s Brotherton Castle home and travel along the North Sea coastline towards neighbouring Gourdon.
Organisers promise that their 9km-long ‘proper cross country’ (meaning, potentially muddy) route will be ‘spectacular’, and make for ‘a fun, yet challenging race that provides a mixture of ups, downs and flats on a variety of terrain, from grass to woodland and bare earth’.
With professional chip-timing and a gift for all finishers, the ‘Lathallan 9.0’ is open to everyone aged 16 and over. However, with its uneven terrain and Aberdeenshire coast location, the Lathallan 9.0 is not suitable for dogs or Canicross runners; likewise, no pushchairs, prams or running buggies are permitted.
In addition to the main race, the school will also be hosting three events for younger athletes: 3.2km-long routes for U15s & U13s; a 1.9k route for U11s; and a 1.3k loop for U9s.
Teas, coffees and cakes will be available to purchase on race day. All money raised from refreshments will go towards the orphanage in South Africa where Lathallan School do charity work every year.
All profits raised more widely from the Lathallan 9.0 will go towards inspiring the next generation of athletes in a new school gym.
Entries can be made now online, although there may also be a limited number available on the day.
