Making the most of the fine weather at the Knype Pools 5 Mile race

Sunshine and smiles at Knype Pools 5

Good turnout for both the main race and fun run.

Blue skies and sunshine were an extra bonus at Sunday’s (28 February) Knype Pools 5 as runners of all ages gave a ‘thumbs up’ for the event that included the cake stall! A substantial amount of money was raised for the Biddulph Mayor’s charities on a successful day for organisers Biddulph Running Club.

This well established event is a favourite with many runners due to the location – Knypersley Reservoir, south east of Biddulph in Staffordshire and a multi-terrain, undulating course consisting of fields, trails and woodland paths. Add to that a friendly, inclusive atmosphere, free park and ride to and from the race, helpful marshals and the delicious homemade cakes.

The Knype Pools 5 Mile and 1 Mile Fun Run returned for 2022 and brought good weather with it on a day that saw Simon Bailey of Staffordshire Moorlands AC win again in 28:49, beating his 2020 time of 29:06. Tom Fellbaum of Congleton Harriers was second in 29:27 and Ben Brereton of Newcastle (Staffs) AC third in 30:11.

Kate Davies also of Staffordshire Moorlands AC retained her crown, becoming the first female in 34:09 and beating her 2020 time of 35:13: making it a double cause for celebration for the Staffordshire Moorlands AC brother and sister. Diane McVey of Wilmslow Running Club was second in 34:27 with Sophie Goodfellow of Newcastle (Staffs) AC third in 35:00.

The last runner finished in 1:37:39. A full set of results can be found via the runABC Midlands Race Listings page.

It was enjoyable day out for all and that was echoed by Biddulph Running Club who said: “We raised a lot of money for charity; we had over 210 entrants in the main race and 25 kids for the fun run who all received a medal. The cake stall sold out too!”

All proceeds to be donated to the Staffordshire Sight Loss Association and Trussell Trust Foodbank.
