Keswick Half Marathon

Hit Keswick for scenic kicks

Said to be one of the most scenic 13.1 miles in the country, Keswick Half Marathon is just around in the corner and with just under two weeks (Sunday 5 May) until race day, organisers are still taking entries for the upcoming race.

Set up by Keswick Rugby Club in order to raise funds for the club and the youth coaching programme, the half is one of the key events that allows this to take place. Keswick RC is one of only a handful of small clubs in the country to have a full-time rugby development officer who spends the majority of his time in the local schools.

The half offers competitors a challenging and attractive course that moves around Derwentwater with a loop into the Newlands valley. With a late spring date, the event is also seen as ideal preparation for those looking to increase their distance moving into the summer months.

Last year saw a field of 733 runners compete, with Blackburn Harriers’ Chris Arthur winning by a distance in 1:13:30. Elvet Striders’ Gareth Pritchard grabbed second in 1:21:19, followed by Tyne Bridge Harriers’ Sparrow Morley (1:21:56).

Leading the female field home was Steel City Striders’ Jennifer Rich in 1:32:38, followed by Fulham RC’s Natalie Carroll (1:38:42) and Northern Masters’ Claire Elliman (1:39:19).

The half represents excellent value at just £20 (or £18 for affiliated runners). Further information, including registration, is available here.
