Babcock Shettleston 10K all set for May return...
Scotland’s top runners are set to go head to head at the Babcock Shettleston 10K, with this year’s race shaping up to be one of the strongest and fastest 10K fields seen in the country for many years. The opening race in the Babcock Series takes place on 10 May on the fast, flat and traffic free roads of Glasgow Green, with a high quality field already confirmed.
Among the latest names added are the current Scottish Half Marathon champions, Annabel Simpson of Fife and Hamish Hickey of Central Region. Both come into the race in strong form following their victories in Inverness, where Simpson clocked 73:52 and Hickey 65:06.
They will be joined by Brogan Wallace of Shettleston, who impressed with a personal best of 72:42 at the Paris Half Marathon, finishing eighth in a high quality international field.
The men’s race also features Logan Rees of Fife, runner up in last year’s event, alongside a deep field that includes 17 Scottish athletes who have all run faster than 30:30 over 10K. Among them is Aberdeen’s Mark Abernethy, who has a best of 29:06. Last year’s race was won by Wolverhampton’s Omar Ahmed in a course and series record of 29:06.
In the women’s race, Natasha Phillips of Dundee returns after setting a personal best of 32:33 earlier this year. She claimed victory on Glasgow Green in 2025 with a series record of 32:48 and leads a competitive field that includes nine runners with times under 36 minutes.
Interest in the event is high, with some 500 entries already confirmed for the Shettleston race and close to 1,250 runners signed up across the full series.
With more than £6,000 in prize money and rewards on offer, alongside a range of series merchandise and finisher items, the Babcock Series continues to attract both elite and club runners, setting the stage for a highly competitive and fast paced start to the Scottish road racing season.
