Merry Running In Sherwood Forest
Make a date with Sherwood Forest for this December trail run...
Sherwood Forest is famous for more than just a man in green tights and his merry men! It is also a renowned location for trail racing and one of these events will return this year for another festive outing. The Edwinstowe Christmas 10K Trail Race will be held on Sunday 1 December and offers runners the opportunity to discover the delights of trail running at a great location away from traffic.
Sherwood Forest’s Major Oak - which sheltered Robin Hood and his Merry Men, is a focal point at the December event. There are often some muddy sections to contend with on this gently undulating forest and nature reserve course but you will be pleased to hear that the Sheriff of Nottingham will not be making an appearance!
Organised by Run2U Events with support from local running clubs and charities, the event is now in its 18th year. They say: "Runners enjoy traversing the tracks and trails through Sherwood Forest which never fails to delight and the hills aren’t too severe. Many of our participants wear Christmas-themed outfits that add to the atmosphere of our friendly and supportive race.
"For those who are that way inclined, it is worth knowing that the 2024 event will also be used as this year's Nottinghamshire Trail Race County Championship."
Take the whole family along and make a day of it, the location also offers The Robin Hood Story, cafes, a visitor centre and craft centre too.
