Fabian Downs At The Burford Bolt

Cool Downs At Burford Bolt

A fabulous display of running by Fabe Downs led to victory at Buckinghamshire's Burford Bolt yesterday (Sunday 22 July) as this international athlete made a dash for the finish.

Fabe (Fabian) Downs of Chiltern Harriers AC holds dual citizenship from Switzerland and the UK and is the unofficial world record holder for the indoor 50km. He is comfortable across a variety of terrain, from mountain running to road and track with a preference for long distance. He has represented Switzerland on two occasions and has won more than 10 medals at national level competitions.

The challenging course didn’t stop Downs from crossing the line to win the Burford Bolt 10K in 37:45. Another top-flight athlete, Pippa Woolven of Wycombe Phoenix AC also impressed, taking second place in 38:56 as well as winning the women’s race. Charlie May of Vale of Aylesbury AC was third in 39:05.

Amber Gascoigne was second female in 44:03 with Jenny Roberts of Wycombe Phoenix AC third in 45:08.

In the 5K, Derek Lloyd of Marlow Striders was first in 20:35. Georgia Whalley of Reading AC was first lady in 24:46.

There was stunning countryside, Buddhist shrines and hills at the third Burford Bolt with a choice of a 10K, 5K and 2K Fun Run, all of which took place in Marlow Bottom, Buckinghamshire. The continuing heatwave played its part as a record number of runners turned out to see if their hill training had paid off! The organisers opted for an eco-friendly theme which included reusable cups for water and every finisher was presented with a medal and goodies for their efforts. Cakes and a BBQ were amongst the post-race attractions.

Proceeds from the event were donated to Burford School.
