Big Fun Run 5Ks Return To Glasgow & Edinburgh
Two fantastic family-friendly 5k events will be returning to Scotland this weekend.
Glasgow’s Big Fun Run 5K (Saturday, 28 July) will be held at 11am in Bellahouston Park; on the other side of the country, Edinburgh’s event (Sunday, 29 July) will start at 11am in Holyrood Park.
Events in the Big Fun Run series are held in some of the most scenic locations in the UK and are aimed at all members of the family. To encourage everyone to take part, entry is free for the under fives.
The events are the perfect way for runners to raise funds for a charity they really care about – as well as have a great day out. Last year, over £220,000 was raised for good causes, and the series is brilliantly supported by hundreds of charities throughout the UK.
Big Fun Run event director, Neil Kilgour, told runABC Scotland online: “Tens of thousands of people take part in Big Fun Runs across the country every year. They attract people of all shapes, sizes and ages. No event is timed. It’s all about having fun and raising funds for a charity close to your heart.”
As organisers say, there really is something for everyone at a Big Fun Run. They aren’t about ‘Olympic-level athletes charging about in record times’. They’re about ‘mums with prams, dads with toddlers, groups running together and a fantastic fun mix’.
Kilgour agrees: “It’s not unusual to see grandma, mum and daughter all lined up together at the start. We also have lots of people taking part in fancy dress, which adds to the feel-good atmosphere.”
“Like all of our runs, our events in Glasgow and Edinburgh will have friendly atmospheres as well as offer achievable challenges.”
Entries are still available for both the Glasgow and Edinburgh events, but must be made before 10am on race day.
