Community Is Key At Cookridge 10K

This 10K event has community and charity at its heart...

The Cookridge Community 10K and Fun Run will return to the Leeds race calendar on 17 May, bringing runners of all ages together for this well-established fixture in the local racing scene. The event attracts a wide range of participants, from experienced club runners to families taking part for fun.

Race day features two events starting and finishing at Cookridge Village Scout Hall on Pinfold Lane. A group warm up will take place before both races, helping to create a lively and welcoming atmosphere for runners and spectators alike.

The main 10K offers a flat, scenic, multi terrain route with one grass hill midway through. All 10K runners receive a commemorative T shirt and medal.

Earlier in the morning a one mile Fun Run sets off from the same venue. Open to everyone aged four and over, the event has no upper age limit and organisers are encouraging participants to take part in fancy dress. The out and back route runs down Pinfold Lane towards Old Rushes Farm before turning and heading back to the Scout Hall finish.

Many entrants run in support of the Cookridge Community Run Initiative, which was created in 2019 to continue the fundraising legacy of local runner Gareth Dunn. Gareth, who passed away from sarcoma aged just 27, was an active sportsman who had been selected to train with the British Paralympic squad. He was a familiar face running the trails around Golden Acre Park, just minutes from his home in Cookridge.

2025's event raised almost £15,000 for sarcoma research through Cancer Research UK, while also supporting local community projects.
