Kirkintilloch Race's Nod To Robert
The renaming of a classic is a fitting tribute to a man whose dedication has not gone unnoticed...
The long established Kirkintilloch 12.5K will take on a new name in 2026, becoming the Robert Rogerson 12.5K in tribute to one of the area’s most dedicated running figures. The race, which returns on 15 February as part of the Kirkintilloch Festival of Running, has been renamed by Kirkintilloch Olympians to recognise Robert's outstanding contribution to the club and the local running community over more than 25 years.
A spokesperson from the club said: "Robert has served as a long standing club secretary and has been involved in organising well over 100 races, playing a central role in the development of distance running in the area. He has also been closely linked with the 12.5K event since its inception in 2006, acting as race director or lead organiser from the very beginning."
Originally launched to mark the club’s 25th anniversary, the race has since become a firm fixture in the winter racing calendar, with its route still used regularly by the club for training.
The Robert Rogerson 12.5K will once again start and finish outside Gartconner Primary School. The 12.5K road race takes runners onto quiet rural roads around Kirkintilloch and Lenzie, following a challenging, undulating course that is popular with those preparing for spring half marathons and marathons.
As part of the wider Kirkintilloch Festival of Running, the event will share the day with the Neil McCover Memorial Half Marathon and a 5K fun run, although participants can only enter one distance.
