Mega Half With Charity At Its Heart
Take on this stunning North East half marathon and do your bit to support MND Scotland...
Runners are being invited to take on a challenging and scenic event in Angus this spring while raising funds for an important cause. Budgie’s Mega Half Marathon will take place in Edzell on Sunday 12 April, combining a tough rural route with a strong fundraising effort in support of MND Scotland.
The event is inspired by local runner Alan 'Budgie' Budge, who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in November 2024 after experiencing symptoms for more than a year. What began as a small idea between friends has quickly grown into a much bigger community movement. In March last year, Budgie and friend Mike Kerr planned for a small group to run the half marathon route together, but 63 people turned up on the day and more than £5,800 was raised for MND Scotland.
This year’s event builds on that momentum with an organised half marathon open to a wider field. The race will start at Edzell Muir before heading out on an anticlockwise loop through the striking countryside of Glen Lethnot. Runners will face the testing climb of Tullo Hill along the way, with the 13.1 mile plus route offering expansive views and a real sense of achievement at the finish.
Organisers say the event is about more than miles and medals, with a strong focus on supporting families affected by MND across Scotland. Entry fees are being kept deliberately low to encourage participants to raise additional donations for MND Scotland, with all funds going directly towards supporting those living with the condition and their families.
