Coniston Trail Race

Cox Rules Coniston

Another fantastic day in the Lakes for runners at this year's Coniston Trail Races...

Lakeland Trails' Coniston Trail Races took place over the weekend and runners were once again rewarded with a spectacular event in one of the Lake District's most beautiful locations. Organisers commented post race: "Our Coniston weekend is always a bit special and this year with two brand new courses; and new sections of interesting trails in the others, not even the dubious June weather could stop over 1500 runners have an amazing day!"

There was a new venue for 2024 also which was popular with all entrants thanks to its stunning backdrop, hassle-free parking, and a very popular bar! Post race comments included: "First Lakeland Trails run for me!! Loved it!! A very well organised event, marshals were brilliant - so supportive!! I will be back!!" and "My first Lakeland Trails run and so far my fav one ever!"

Trail running legend, inov8 ambassador and co-founder of The Green Runners, Damian Hall took part this year although compared to some of his incredible ultra distance challenges, it was a quick sprint for him towards victory on Sunday's Half Marathon.

A spokesperson from Lakeland Trails said: "Damian is becoming a regular on the Lakeland Trails and he recognises the work we're doing to make our events more sustainable, sharing some of our initiatives with other events. This year alone, we've already ordered 1500 fewer t-shirts by giving you the option of buying a race t-shirt instead of giving them away for 'free'."

Special congratulations must also go to Lakeland Trails' legend, Eden Runners' Jonny Cox, who has remained undefeated on the Lakeland Trails since 2022, winning distances from 15K all the way up to the Ultra, and setting a new benchmark on the Marathon on Sunday.

Organisers say: "It's not just that he's super-speedy, but he's got a huge amount of respect from his fellow participants because he's one of the nicest runners you will ever be passed by, always taking time to give out a few words of encouragement because he understands everyone is trying their hardest."
