New Course For Saved BM10K
Entries for Brighton's big 10K race have reopened – limited places available
Just over a month ago, the Brighton Marathon Weekend was on life support with organiser Grounded Events Company Limited entering into administration. At a crucial meeting with Brighton City Council on Monday 19 December 2022 a licence was granted for London Marathon Events (LME) to operate the event for five years (2023 – 2027) and the process of resuscitation had begun.
The latest sign of life returning is the reopening of general entries to Brighton Marathon 10K (BM10K) that will take place on the same day as the Brighton Marathon – Sunday 2 April 2023 – starting at 9:00am in Preston Park.
LME has confirmed that they will honour all places previously bought by individuals and charities to use in the 2023 BM10K and is now offering another chance to enter the event, which will take place on a new course, just before the Brighton Marathon that starts at 9:45am.
Hugh Brasher, Event Director of London Marathon Events, said: “The BM10K gives people a wonderful opportunity to be part of a fantastic day in Brighton on Sunday 2 April. It’s just over 10 weeks until the event which is plenty of time to prepare for a 10K, even if it is your first one, and we will support everyone every step of the way from signing up to the Finish Line.”
General entries for BM10K are priced at £35 and this will give entrants the big race experience they have come to expect from Brighton Marathon Weekend but with the more manageable 10K distance. The first 6K of the revised course for 2023 takes place within the city on leafy, sheltered roads around The Level and Grand Parade before heading for the seafront sights and a great finish on historic Madeira Drive.
Last year's BM10K winners were Ronny Wilson (Lincoln Wellington, 30:04) and Natasha Cockram (Micky Morris Racing Team, 33:29) – pictured above #1633 – who was 15th overall. There were more than 100 runners inside 40 minutes and 2,703 finishers in 2:14:40, making this one of the largest 10K races in the UK.
