Running Uphill!
A hill race with an after party - sounds perfect...
Edinburgh University Hare & Hounds Running Club will welcome runners back to the capital’s hills this spring as the Braids Hill Cross Country Races takes place on Saturday 14 March. Traditionally a November fixture, the popular student led event moved to a March date last year after a postponement, and the early season slot is now set to continue.
The race is staged on the rolling Braid Hills in southern Edinburgh, offering sweeping views across the city skyline and towards the Pentland Hills. Competitors can choose between 5K and 10K distances, both using a challenging 5K loop that mixes open hillside with grass and trail sections.
Organisers tell us: "The course is known for its undulating nature and can be wet underfoot, with one notably steep downhill on each lap adding to the cross country test! Come test yourself!"
The event attracts a strong mix of local club runners, university students and alumni, along with teams from universities across the UK. Its combination of competitive racing and a sociable atmosphere has helped make it a firm favourite on the student and club calendar.
Racing is followed by a prize giving, with celebrations continuing into the evening at the traditional post race ceilidh and after party.
