Entries open for Aviemore Half Marathon & 10K For All
General entries have just opened for next year’s Aviemore Half Marathon and 10K for All, with prices held at 2019 levels until 14 January. The popular events, organised by the Speyside Trust, will both be held on Sunday, 18 October.
The Speyside Trust provides holiday care for disabled adults and children at the Badaguish Outdoor Centre. All entry fees received are treated as donations to the Trust, with organisers encouraging entrants to raise money via sponsorship to provide respite care activity holidays at Badaguish.
The predominantly downhill Aviemore Half Marathon starts at the Badaguish Outdoor Centre – situated approximately 1100 ft above sea level – and has the Cairngorm Mountains as its spectacular backdrop.
The first seven miles of the race are on forest tracks through the ancient Caledonian pines of Glenmore Forest Park and Glenmore Village. The route then crosses onto another forest track around Loch Morlich and then on to the main road continuing past Coylumbridge and Inverdruie, over the River Spey via a footbridge and then back to the finish line at the Strathspey Hotel – at approximately 720ft above sea level.
While billed as an off-road race, conditions underfoot are a mixture of mostly good solid forest tracks, paths and tarmac roads; a good supportive running shoe is all that is required.
The 10K For All also starts on the rough tracks near Badaguish, joining the Half Marathon route along the main road to Aviemore. The 10K finishes at the same point as the Half Marathon.
Also returning for 2020 will be the Macdonald Fun Run, a one-mile traffic-free jog, walk or wander held within the grounds of the Aviemore Highland Resort on the day before the Half Marathon and 10K races.
The fun run is suitable for adults, children, families and wheelchair users; entries cost just £3 and are available on the day. All finishers will receive a Macdonald Mile medal.
