Run on the Wild Side
Make some wild holiday plans in 2024...
Are you yet to make holiday plans for 2024? With flight prices through the roof this year, maybe it would be better just to stay in the UK and enjoy running in some of the country's most scenic spots. You won't have to worry about baggage allowance and so you really can pack as many pairs of trainers as you like.
A perfect example of a mini-break idea for active people and families is the Wild GOAT Festival which is back in 2024 after a successful launch in 2023. Taking place once again in the Lake District, the event is organised by the team behind Kielder Marathon and Durham City Run Festival.
This year's festival will take place 31 May-2 June with fun challenges planned for all ages, the festival will be set at the stunning Holker Hall & Gardens near Cartmel. Holker Hall provides a brilliant base for amazing routes around the peninsula. Taking in both coastal views and the beautiful fells that are synonymous with the Lakes, attendees will have the chance to explore areas within the estate that aren’t open to the public.
Organisers comment: "We promise you a weekend of running the trails and gravel cycling set in the heart of the Lake District. It'll be an unforgettable experience with delicious food, live music, educational workshops and inspiring talks from sporting legends to nourish your soul and inspire you ahead of your next wild adventure."
In terms of trail running, there will be events ranging from 5K-30K happening over the course of the weekend with mini, medium and long trail runs all on offer. Paula Radcliffe's Families On Track will also be there and it wouldn't be a festival without the promise of live music, food & drink and fun activities each day.
Asides from the sporting activities and G.O.A.Ts in attendance such as Steve Cram and Paula Radcliffe, there will be a number of exciting experts talking on a variety of health and wellbeing subjects, along with runners and riders sharing stories about their amazing challenges and adventures.
