New Helix Pond Races

This new event in Falkirk is perfect for setting a new PB or age graded best...

An exciting new evening of road races is coming to Falkirk this summer courtesy of local club, Falkirk Victoria Harriers. The Helix Pond Races will take place on Friday 7 June and involve both 1 mile and 3K options with both courses on a traffic free loop.

Speaking about the new event, organisers said: "It’s exciting as there’s never been an event like it in the area. The races will offer strong PB potential as the course is fast and flat, without sharp turns."

The event will be run round the Helix Pond with the course officially measured and certified with a SAL licence. Both distances will offer electronic timing and will be eligible for inclusion on runbritain rankings and Power of 10.

But it takes a team of volunteers to put on events like these and the Harriers are looking for some help to make it a success: "We’re looking for volunteers to marshal - just general marshalling duties that I’m sure many of you will be familiar with, but don’t worry if you’re not, it’s not difficult and instructions will be given."

The first race, over 1 mile will be at 5.30pm, subsequent timings will depend on the number of entries  and will be posted a few days before the event. Organisers tell us: "The plan is to split the entrants in groupings of up to 30 per race, based on predicted finishing time. The order will be from slowest predicted time to fastest."

There is free parking for the event on offer at Falkirk Football Club as well as the use of the club's toilets. By entering this event you will be helping the development of athletics locally as the Harriers will invest any money raised back into the club.
