Eight Country Miles
This challenging event promises four hills, eight miles and home baking too...
Organised by Bromsgrove and Redditch AC, the Waseley Wobbler is a tough, multi-terrain race with 1100ft of climbing. The event will take place on 29 September this year and welcomes runners looking to take their first steps into fell running on a well-marked and marshalled course. This year the race will also incorporate the Worcestershire Multi-Terrain Championships.
Located on the West Midlands/Worcestershire border the Waseley Wobbler started life as the North Worcestershire Hill Race in the early 1980's as a mammoth 15 miler extending from Waseley Hills Country Park out to the Clent Hills and back. It has since been reduced firstly to 10 miles and now to its present 8 mile format.
The race starts and finishes at Waseley Hills High School and follows a challenging but picturesque route, looping round Waseley Hills Country Park before climbing through the woods towards the Lickey Hills then returning to the top of Waseley. The course includes four major climbs in eight country miles, but we have it on good authority that the views from the top are worth it.
Organisers say: "The race is a serious undertaking but is suitable for runners who have completed 10K races and are looking for a new challenge. Expect hills, glorious hills, fields, stiles, mud, trails and a bit of tarmac and stoney paths. Our marshals are friendly and mostly harmless and there will be homemade cakes and refreshments at the end and if we’re lucky the showers will be working."
There is also a kids race which involves a 1.5 mile (ish) course incorporating the start, first hill and end of the full adults' race. If you'd like to know more, visit the Wasley Wobbler web page here.
