Potters Arf 2026

Can You Conquer Heartbreak Hill?

Staffordshire's biggest running event returns with its iconic Half Marathon, relay, walk and family races...

This relates to: Potters Arf Marathon

The Potters 'Arf returns to Stoke-on-Trent on Sunday 4 October 2026, bringing thousands of runners together for one of Staffordshire's best-known and most popular running events.

First staged in 2005, the Potters 'Arf has grown into Staffordshire's biggest running event, attracting up to 3,000 participants to its challenging Half Marathon. Alongside the main race, the day also includes a Half Marathon Relay, Half Marathon Walk, Walking Relay and family fun run, making it a true celebration of running for all ages and abilities.

Starting and finishing in Hanley city centre, the officially measured course is renowned for its enthusiastic local support and one unforgettable obstacle: the famous Heartbreak Hill. This demanding climb has become part of Potters 'Arf folklore, testing runners before rewarding them with a memorable run back towards the city centre finish and a unique finisher's medal.

The event is about much more than the race itself. Every year, thousands of pounds are raised for charities while local communities line the streets to cheer participants around the course. Pacers, mile markers, well stocked drink stations and professional organisation help create a race day experience that appeals equally to first-time Half Marathon runners and experienced competitors.

Participants can choose to have their race number posted in advance or collect it during race weekend, with a three-hour time limit in place to accommodate runners across a wide range of abilities. Fancy dress is welcomed, adding even more colour and personality to one of the Midlands' biggest sporting occasions.

Whether you're aiming for a personal best, tackling your first 13.1 miles or simply looking to experience the atmosphere of a major city Half Marathon, the Potters 'Arf continues to deliver one of the region's standout race day experiences. With its unique blend of challenge, community and Staffordshire pride, it remains a highlight of the autumn running calendar.
