Ten Is The Magic Number
10 milers are hard to come by, but if you're quick you can join the fun in Perth...
The Tay Ten is a perfect springtime challenge, offering runners that elusive midpoint distance between 10K and half marathon. In 2024 it will take place on 28 April and although entries have only recently gone on sale more than half have already been snapped up! A spokesperson from the event said: "We're delighted to say we are over half-filled for the Tay Ten, just 24 hrs after opening entries!
"We have particularly good contingents from Kirkcaldy Wizards and Pitreavie, plus the usual cast-of-thousands from Dundee Road Runners (we salute you)! Places are definitely going faster this year, so just a wee warning - especially if you need to run this one for a club series/champs/grand prix - not to unduly delay!"
The race, organised by Perth Road Runners, starts and finishes on the athletics track at the George Duncan arena in North Muirton, Perth. Most of the course steers clear of public roads and traffic, making the most of North Perth’s paths and cycleways.
Well known as a fast and flat course, run exclusively on hard surfaces but for a 150m section of trail path, the Tay Ten is ideal for anyone looking for a rare 10-mile PB. Speaking about the event, a spokesperson said: "Ten-mile races are increasingly rare, yet remain a feature of many clubs’ standards and awards systems. Look no further than the Tay Ten!"
For those looking to set a new course record, the times to beat are from David Cole (Cambuslang Harriers, 55.09) and Annabel Simpson (Fife AC, 59.01). The 2023 Tay Ten saw 228 finishers, winners were Alison McNeilly of Dundee Road Runners in 1:04:34 and by Alistair Gudgin of Fife AC in 54:29, both runners successfully defending their 2022 titles.
