Stratford's Second Chance
After flooding ruined the fun last month, Stratford's big races will get a second chance at the weekend...
Runners in and around Stratford will already know that the town's big day of running was cancelled in September due to flooding, but organisers have been able to reschedule the Big Half and 10K event to 27 October and the great news is that there are still spots available for those who'd like to join the fun.
Organisers commented at the time: "It is with massive disappointment that we must announce the postponement of the race on Sunday. There has been widespread flooding throughout the Midlands, Stratford is right on the Avon, and water levels are still rising, and are due to peak on Saturday night."
Thankfully the forecast looks much drier for the new date and so runners will be able to experience everything that Shakespeare’s Stratford-Upon-Avon has to offer with a finish coming past the Bards RSC Theatre. Previous results show that this event is ideal for gaining personal best times which is useful for both experienced runners and those new to the distance.
The 10K has long been a highly regarded race that attracts a good mix of club athletes, charity runners and those attempting the distance for the first time. Runners are also always rewarded with enthusiastic marshals and a supportive atmosphere.
The new race date happens to fall in what is school half term for many so maybe this could be your sign to double up with an educational family trip to the Bard's birthplace alongside some physical education courtesy of the race itself.
