Aim high, very high, as Salomon Skyline Scotland entries open

Entries open tomorrow at 10am (Tuesday, 5 February) for places at the UK’s biggest weekend of mountain running, Salomon Skyline Scotland.

Organisers expect demand for places to be high following the success of the 2018 Skyrunning World Championships, the first of their kind to be held in Scotland.

Over 2000 runners from almost 60 countries took part in the championships, won by ultrarunning legend Kilian Jornet. Skyline Scotland 2019 will again feature four skyraces over three days, covering the various disciplines of the fast-growing sport.

The Salomon Mamores VK (20 September) is described as ‘an incredible leg burning and lung-busting Vertical Kilometer’ race from sea level to Munro summit (5k / 1000m). It’s the only event of its kind in the UK.

The Ben Nevis Ultra will be held on the same day, with a total climb of 4000m over the 52km of the course, which includes the summit of Britain’s highest mountain.

The Ring of Steall Skyrace (21 September) includes short sections of easy scrambling over its 29 km length as well as great views of Ben Nevis. Total ascent for this event, representing the ‘sky’ discipline of the sport, is 2500m.

The final race of the weekend is the ‘extreme’ and iconic Glen Coe Skyline (22 September). This event includes the most technically challenging mountain terrain. With a 52 km route and 4750m of ascent, the event is advised only for those with scrambling and climbing experience.

Places in each event will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
