Things That Go Run In The Night!

There may be a few spirits lurking around the trails at this night time run...

Dem bones dem bones dem dry bones... celebrate all things Halloween at one of the region's best-loved and spookiest night time races - the Skeleton Run! Organised by Pure Outdoors Events, the event has been in existence since 2009 and has a loyal fan base that enter into the spirit of things by participating in Halloween fancy dress.

The images on the event's website and Facebook page are testament to the fact that the creativity of those taking part knows no bounds, with outfits becoming more elaborate as the years have passed. This really is an event where your imagination can run riot.

Set to take place on 27 October, runners will enjoy a 5 mile course which uses trails designated for mountain bikers, horse riders and walkers within Beacon Hill Country Park in Leicestershire.

Walkers are welcome to enter along with runners with both groups following the trails along a route lit with glow sticks and marked with fluorescent signs that add to the sense of the occasion. Marshals are situated along the way to keep everyone safe and there are drinks stations at two miles and the finish.

Speaking about their event, organisers say: "Fancy a sprint through the spooky woods in the dead of night? Then dust off your wigs and break out the fake blood and join us at the original night run. With 5 miles of terrifying trails, the horror of Beacon Hill (twice), menacing marshals and a final, downhill run for your life to the finish. Dare you join us?"

There are prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female and various spot prizes. Every finisher will receive a bespoke medal, toffee apple and free race photographs courtesy of James Kirby.
