Staying in the loop at the Fractured Marathon

Fractured Marathon Promises A Smashing Run

Individuals and teams aim to run 10 x 2.6 mile laps between dawn and dusk

Entries have opened for the Fractured Marathon on Friday 23 June in the beautiful grounds of Calke Abbey in Ticknall, Derbyshire. Spend Friday night running timed laps every half hour in the company of like-minded others and have fun whilst doing so.

A run with a difference, the Fractured Marathon made its debut in 2019 and has become a ‘must do’ for many due to the lively atmosphere and camaraderie. It’s a well organised and supported event from Peak Running with their inclusive ethos where everyone is welcome irrespective of age or ability and supported every step of the way.

The options are to run as a solo or in a team – the latter with male/female/mixed categories and up to a maximum of 5 people. Whether you choose to run each lap as fast as you can to complete a marathon or dip in and out is up to you. However, each 2.6 mile lap starts every half hour and on the half hour so if you miss the start time you have to wait until the next one to begin another lap.

It begins at 7pm and ends at midnight. Participants have 5 hours in which to complete their laps in changing conditions of weather, temperature and light. Runners will set out in daylight and finish in the dark.

All of this takes place on a superb route which is a mix of woodland tracks, grass, hard packed trails and tarmac. There are a few hills to tackle followed by some lovely downhill sections to stretch out the legs. All will be kept on course and encouraged by the friendly, efficient marshals.

There are prizes for the fastest accumulated marathon for solos and teams (all three categories). If you are looking to go loopy on a Friday night then this is the place to do so. For more details about the event and how to enter, visit the Peak Running website.
