As the sun sets an another brilliant Great Birmingham Run, entries for the 2024 event on May 5 have already opened and, if you're quick off the mark, you'll be able to bag a bargain with £6 off the standard 10K entry price for next year and £8 off the standard half marathon price. Early bird entries are available until May 22.

This year's event saw 12,000 runners head off in the 10K and half marathon, to see the sights of the city centre and south Birmingham.

There were wins for Chris Thompson (Aldershot, Farnham & District) in a time of 29:27 as he led the field home in the 10K. Rachel Gifford (Leamington Cycling & Athletics Club) was the first female finisher in a time of 36:30. It was a red letter day for Birchfield Harriers as the Half Marathon was won by Omar Ahmed in a time of 1:05:23 with Hayley Carruthers leading female in a time of 1:21:11.

Great Birmingham Run is about so much more than the front runners as many charities will atest. PC Jess Davies ‘kept right on to the end of the road’ after completing the half marathon in her Birmingham City shirt to honour murdered six-year-old Blues fan Arthur Labinjo-Hughes and to raise funds for the Arthur’s Angels charity. More than £10 million has been raised for good causes at the Great Birmingham Run since 2017!

More than 500 children took part in the Junior & Mini events – many dressed in regal robes and crowns – for a high-octane sprint across Birmingham city centre, while a host of companies of all sizes took on competitors for bragging rights and fastest-time trophies in the Business Challenge.
