The record entry was set off by a klaxon operated by the 2014 European 10,000m champion, who hails from Devon. Conditions were good with some sunshine as the top 50 or so got away ahead of the five-time Olympian for a great photo opportunity.

Jo had started the day by giving competitors (aged 5 to 9 years) in the Sprite Sprint an Olympic warm-up to remember. Then it was time for the high energy aerobic-style warm up for the main event starting at 10:00am.

Race winner Charlotte Taylor-Green (Bristol & West, 35:58) was prominent from the start and led the colourful throng up Long Walk, with Windsor Castle as the backdrop. Pavey (W45, Exeter Harriers) moved smoothly through the pack for second in 37:50 and Emma Feamhead (unattached, 39:06) was third.

There were 1,594 finishers in 1:46:50 and more than 400 beat the hour. One feature of this race is the 'Generation Game' challenge for the fastest mother and daughter team, won this year by Charlie and Angie Nuttall in an aggregate time of 1:36:30 (pictured below).

Our runABC South race preview highlighted the alphabetically ordered entry list from Abbie Boughtwood to Zylpha Roylance. Fun fact: Zylpha (1:07:41) finished ahead of Abbie (1:25:26)!

Post-race Jo Pavey said: “A massive well done to all who took part today. There really was a community feel about this event. The scenery through Windsor Great Park was incredible. The sun was out and I thoroughly enjoyed running alongside so many inspirational women and getting a chance to catch up with the runners and supporters after the event. I would highly recommend getting involved next year so you can experience this superb event first hand.”
