Windsor weekend double for Charlotte Taylor-Green
What a weekend it was for Charlotte Taylor-Green. The Bristol & West athlete first won the Windsor Womens 10K on Saturday (28 September) then returned 24 hours later to complete the Windsor Running Festival weekend double by winning Windsor Half Marathon on Sunday!
There were 3,861 finishers in 3:28:58 in the 37th running of Windsor Half Marathon in the spectacular setting of Windsor Great Park. The top ten were inside 1:17:00 and that included the women's champion, Charlotte Taylor-Green (1:16:52) – who had set personal bests for 10k (34:09) and half marathon (1:15:46) earlier this year.
The Windsor course is testing, scenic and very attractive to run with Long Walk, Copper Horse statue, Queen Elizabeth II statue and Windsor Castle among its many highlights.
Four men finished in less than 70 minutes in a repeat of last year's leading statistic. Daniel Studley (1:07:47) made it a Bristol & West double ahead of Rob Corney (Reading Road Runners, 1:08:32), Tom Higgs (South London Harriers, 1:09:29) and Alex Milne (1:09:59).
Two W40 women masters also finished in the top 20 in a top quality race: Rachel Felton (1:20:11) and Lesley Locks (Hart Road Runners, 1:21:07). Just under 100 athletes were inside 90 minutes and the full results can be viewed via runABC South race listing here
The prestigious Corporate Challenge Trophy was won by Kingsley Nanton, Philip Cartwright, Andy Cowan and James Norman of Cobham Chasers in a combined time of 6:35:02. They received a special Windsor Forest Oak Bowl, expertly crafted from a fallen oak bough from the Great Park.
Peter Hier, race director, said: “A huge congratulations to each and every runner that took part in the race this weekend. Every year we are bowled over by the hard work and dedication of the half marathon runners. The town of Windsor never fails to host such a fantastic event and this year was no exception. I’d like to congratulate all the volunteers, supporters and of course the runners themselves for contributing to such an exhilarating day and thank our supportive sponsors: Saucony, Kate Percy’s Go Bites, Elan Water, Hyundai and MacDonald Windsor Hotel.”
Early bird entries for 2020 will open at 09:00am on 31 October here
