Runners at the Staverton 10 Mile race

Staverton 10 ready for take off

Runners will have PB’s in their sights at this fast road race in Gloucestershire.

The Staverton 10 is getting ready to take off on Sunday 29 January with a full complement aboard. An ideal race for any runner preparing for a spring half marathon or marathon which starts and finishes at an airport!

Organised by CLC Striders Running Club, the Staverton 10 is an annual event popular with local clubs due to the mainly flat course which is expertly marshalled. If you are aiming for a quick time then this is the race for you.

It starts at 9am from Gloucestershire Airport (previously known as Staverton Airport) and involves two laps around Churchdown village before returning to the airport. There is a short section through farmland but apart from that it is all on open roads and with shouts and cheers from marshals to keep everyone going until the end.

As regards fast times... the course records are: Men’s 49:29 set by James Bellward (RAF) in January 2020
and Women’s 1:02:41 set by Fiona Carter (Lonely Goat Running Club) in January 2022.

Will these be broken this year? It depends upon the weather on the day which could be anything from wet and windy to dry and cold. Light cloud and 9 degrees according to the long range forecast.

Staying with the aeronautical theme, the Race HQ is outside the Aviator Inn on the edge of the Airport and is also the location for the drinks station at the half way point. Pop in there afterwards for a post-race drink and/or something to eat.

Important information about the race can be found at the CLC Striders Running Club website.
