Racing start at the 7 Pools Run

7 Pools Run Makes A Splash

Well organised, well marshalled and well supported

The marshals were singled out for praise at Sunday’s (2 April) 7 Pools Run as their cheerful demeanour and encouragement made the event a winner with those taking part. A little (or lot!) of support goes a long way - particularly in a challenging, off-road run in Sutton Park...

Described as ‘undulating’, the route for the 7 Pools Run was a mix of surfaces including grass, track, mud and a small section of tarmac that waited for participants on a cold day in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands. This terrain meant careful consideration as regards shoe choice along with personal preference.

All types of runners lined up at the start line near the Town Gate entrance to the park, ready for the off at 11am and a chance to test their fitness and resolve in like-minded company. Whether taking the plunge for the first time or an old hand, this long-established event delivered on all levels whilst raising funds for KIDS charity.

Chris Pine (Royal Sutton Coldfield AC) was the winner in 37:19 with more than three minutes between him and Tom Mitchell who finished second in 40:39. There was a smaller gap between Mitchell and Joseph Quinn who was third in 40:59.

Hannah Hickling (also Royal Sutton Coldfield AC) was the women’s winner in 45:19 followed by Lisa Wakeman in 46:24. Kate McBrien finished third in 46:37.

The last runner crossed the line in 1:29:44. There were 223 finishers.
