Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2022

Perfect 10 for EMF 2022

May dates will see 35,000 plus flock to the streets of Scotland's capital for the return of the king of Scottish running events 10 for EMF 2022

For close on 20 years Edinburgh Marathon, and its associated programme of races from 1.5K to the classic 26.2 mile challenge, has been the high point of the Scottish race calendar. However the pandemic drama of 2020 and 2021 meant that no live event took place much to the disappointment of thousands of runners. Now organisers are preparing for the return of the Festival on 28/29 May 2022 and promising their best event yet with 10 different race categories.

The 'daddy' is of course, the big Sunday feature that starts in the grounds of Edinburgh University and heads through the Old Town on a memorable odyssey that includes Princes Street Gardens and Holyrood Park before the 'journey to the East' along the scenic coastal stretches of the Firth of Forth and the big finish back at Musselburgh.

Standard entries for 2022 will close soon (some time in December/January) but you will still be able to get a place on the marathon start line with a charity slot. Running in the colours of the good cause of your choice means incredible support around the course - wear the vest, feel the love!

Edinburgh Marathon Festival's Annette Aitken-Drummond told runABC Scotland: "Although it's six months until race weekend, the team here at EMF is starting to make plans for what will be our first live event in three years. Little did we know when we signed off in 2019 that we wouldn't see the 35,000 plus who make our festival of running so special for quite so long. Participants from around the world, from all over the UK and, of course, the length and breadth of Scotland will be gathering again and that's a very exciting prospect."

Annette continued: "The EMF team has been keeping its hand in with other events like the Scottish Half Marathon and the Men's and Women's 10K this autumn. And we will welcome back a full-blooded Kilomathon (13.1K & 6.55K & Mini Kilo) next April. But we will all know we're really back in action when we see thousands of people streaming along the streets of the Old Town on 29 May 2022."
