Prison Runners

Jailhouse Run

A new trail race for North Yorkshire sees runners running behind behind bars...

Here at runABC we have seen some pretty unique event locations over the years, but a prison has not been one of them. Until now that is! Race organiser, Muddy Roads, has revealed plans for their summer 5-race series and kicking things off on 27 April is a brand new event - the HMP Kirklevington Grange 5K Trail Run.

The route is predominantly flat with a mix of trail and paths, taking runners in and around the prison grounds, in fact those taking part will actually get to run inside the prison! Could a PB be on the cards? Don’t hang around too long or the guards might put you in a cell!

Prizes are given to the 1st, 2nd & 3rd male and female and series prizes include £100 vouchers for Up & Running (Darlington).

The remaining races in the series are the The Saltburn 5K Trail on 18 May, The Lordstones 5K Trail on 15 June, The Pine Forest 5K Trail on 13 July and Newham Grange Farm 5K on 10 August.

Muddy Roads was established in 2013 to promote health and well-being to the community, encouraging everyone of all levels of ability whether you are a novice or seasoned club runner. They say: "We hope to show you some wonderful scenic places with our great routes and provide some mystery, with a little air of excitement on those night time themed trails.

"You never know what or who you might see in those woods. Keep checking for any updates as our events could get wet and messy!"
