Escape To The Country
This new event offers both a city break and a countryside escape...
There's a new kind of trail event coming to the UK, one that offers runners the chance to enjoy beautiful countryside routes combined with city convenience. The three Trail Escape events that are currently planned will start and finish in major UK cities, heading out on traffic-free routes to the surrounding countryside and back again.
The idea is heading to Scotland next year with an Edinburgh location all ready for Saturday 6 September 2025 (Manchester and Bristol/Bath events are also planned). Participants will embark on a stunning trail marathon or 25K that starts from from Saughton Park, close to Edinburgh's city centre before following a traffic-free route along tranquil green corridors out of the city and head up into the stunning Pentland Hills.
Organisers say: "Enjoy the rare opportunity to take part in a trail event that offers city convenience. Book a place to stay, walk to the start and back from the finish, celebrate with friends & family, and take in all that the city has to see and do.
"These cities have been chosen because they offer beautiful trail running and hiking in surrounding countryside. They are all amazing destinations for a city break and trail marathon or 25K challenge!"
At all Trail Escapes there will be an event village at the start and finish offering food, drink, and a place for family and friends to enjoy the event whilst you are running. We are told that this will be a timed event but not necessarily a race. Organisers say: "While there will be categories for fastest finishers, your goal is to enjoy running or walking on these incredible routes.
"Stopping to enjoy the views is strongly encouraged. Forget the pressure of chasing PBs or worrying about split times. Trail Escape is about enjoying the environment we are taking you through on your way to getting that medal."
The series in fact kicks off in October this year with the Bristol/Bath event and is followed by Manchester in June next year.
