Cuningar Loop parkrun Takes Off
There's a new parkrun for runners in the west of the country...
A brand new parkrun has arrived in the Glasgow area, with Cuningar Loop parkrun already proving to be a hit with the local running community. The inaugural event took place on 8 March, following nine months of planning. The wait was well worth it though, as a spokesperson said: "363 runners, walkers and dogs together with babies in buggies took part on the two lap course in a great atmosphere.
"We even had an opera singer by marshall point 2! There were representatives from, it would seem, all of our local running clubs and groups which was great to see and hope that they will continue to be a part of this new running community in Rutherglen."
The course features a scenic two-lap route over mixed surfaces, including tarmac and tight gravel paths, starting near The Tur and finishing at the Evolve sculpture. The Cuningar Loop park itself offers fantastic facilities, including public toilets, changing areas, bike tracks, Scotland’s first outdoor bouldering park, an adventure play area and accessible walking routes.
Volunteers are key to keeping the event running smoothly and organisers are keen to hear from anyone willing to lend a hand. Those interested can get in touch via cuningarloop@parkrun.com.
With such a strong start and an enthusiastic community behind it, Cuningar Loop parkrun looks set to become a firm favourite in Glasgow’s running scene.
