Hedgehog Half Marathon Medal

Sign up for this sharp Half & help the Hedgehogs

Runners wanted to do their bit for our endangered, small spiny friends.

The Hedgehog Half Marathon will roll out on 4 October and whilst there are several changes because of the coronavirus outbreak, places are likely to sell out at this picturesque event. This will be the first fundraising event in 2020 for Andrew’s Hedgehog Hospital and runners are encouraged to enter and show their support for a local charity with a big heart.

Changes have been made that include additional safety measures to ensure the event is Covid-secure and there is no ‘Hoglet Mile’ fun run for kids this year although youngsters can enter the virtual event and complete one mile as an alternative. Adults and juniors in the virtual event will receive their medals via the post.

Apart from a minor tweak to the start and finish, the course remains the same as it winds its way around the delightful grounds in Normanby Hall Country Park. Its popularity is such that many participants choose to run in a hedgehog costume and there is a special trophy for the person who epitomises the spirit of the occasion.

Sadly, the founder of Andrew’s Hedgehog Hospital passed away earlier this year and in recognition of his tireless service, organisers Curly’s Athletes will continue to support this charity now and in the future. This is particularly relevant in the current climate as charities struggle to deliver services against a backdrop of increasing demand coupled with a decrease in donations.

Places are limited due to Covid-19 and as in the previous two years, will be quickly snapped up. Entrants can ask people to sponsor them and/or buy an event T-shirt with profits going to Andrew’s Hedgehog Hospital or name a hedgehog for a friend.

An information pack containing updates about the event and to enter can be found at Curly’s Athletes website.
