Flora back in the race as partner of Virgin Money London Marathon
Flora is synonymous with the Virgin Money London Marathon's history. In a 13-year unbroken relationship from 1996-2009, the plant-based margarine brand Flora helped create an iconic partnership that touched more than half a million runners plus millions of roadside supporters and witnessed some of the event's most legendary moments.
Who could ever forget triple London champion Paula Radcliffe's astonishing 2003 world record 2:15:25 that lasted until last year? Now, Flora is delighted to be back as an official partner of this incredible event and to be working with the legendary Paula Radcliffe as Flora Running Ambassador.
The new partnership begins immediately for the 2020 race on Sunday 4 October – The 40th Race – and runs until 2023. To celebrate, Flora will select one virtual 2020 marathon runner per week who is fundraising for small charities to receive windfall donations of £1,000.
Further prizes will also be available including running kit and places in the 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon, courtesy of Flora. The initiative comes at a time when the UK charity sector is facing an estimated £10.1billion funding shortfall as a result of Covid-19.
Paula Radcliffe will provide exclusive training and nutrition tips for Flora’s new Keep Running hub with great training and nutrition hints and tips. Paula Radcliffe said: “I am thrilled about Flora coming back on board as an official partner of London Marathon and delighted to be partnering with them as Flora Running Ambassador. All of my wins in London came when the race was known as the Flora London Marathon and this partnership ties in with my beliefs on healthy living and keeping the family active and eating healthily”.
All those who complete the virtual Virgin Money London Marathon using the official Race App will be sent The 40th Race finisher medal and exclusive New Balance finisher T-shirt. Their finish times will also be compiled in the historic results of The 40th Race.
