Warrington Transport Trail Half Marathon returns on Sunday 18 October 2026 with a route that turns the area's transport heritage into a 13.1 mile running challenge.

Starting and finishing at Thelwall Royal British Legion Sports Club, the circular course makes extensive use of former and existing transport corridors that have become footpaths and bridleways.

Runners begin with a short section on the Trans Pennine Trail before crossing the swing bridge at Latchford and following the Manchester Ship Canal. The route then crosses the River Mersey at Woolston Weir and continues along the towpath of the New Cut Canal.

Further sections incorporate the route of the Black Bear canal and another encounter with the Manchester Ship Canal before runners head towards Walton Gardens.

The final part follows the Bridgewater Canal before rejoining the Trans Pennine Trail for the return to Thelwall.

With so much of the course beside waterways and on trails, conditions can influence the challenge. Trail footwear is advised when there has been wet weather before race day.

The course will be waymarked and marshalled, with chip timing and a finishers medal included. Runners also receive a complimentary hot drink before and after the race, while the bar will be open at the finish.

The race starts at 9:00am, offering an unusual autumn Half Marathon where Warrington's old transport networks provide much of the course itself.
