The Drop Manchester 2026

No Map, No Route, No Idea Where You Are.

The Drop Manchester challenges runners to find their own way back to Deansgate after being transported blindfolded to an unknown location.

This relates to: The Drop Manchester

The Drop Manchester returns on Sunday 25 October 2026 with a running challenge where not knowing the route is the entire point.

Rather than following arrows or course markings, participants begin at the event centre on Deansgate before surrendering their electronic devices, watches and navigation aids. They then board a bus, put on blackout blindfolds and are transported to an undisclosed location.

When the blindfolds come off, the clock starts. The objective is simply to find the way back to Manchester on foot without a map, GPS or compass.

The main challenges drop participants either 10 or 15 miles from the finish as the crow flies. The actual distance travelled will be longer and depends entirely on the decisions each runner makes. The 15 mile version is the original and toughest option.

There is also The Drop 6, which is restricted to participants without local knowledge. Anyone who lives locally, regularly trains in the area or has a strong knowledge of the surrounding routes is excluded from that distance to preserve the uncertainty at the heart of the challenge.

Safety is handled rather differently from a conventional race too. Participants carry a sealed emergency bag and are tracked by the organisers using GPS. Breaking the bag's seal results in disqualification.

The 10 and 15 mile challenges start at 10:00am, with The Drop 6 following at 10:15am.

For runners accustomed to checking every turn and split on a watch, The Drop presents a very different question. How well can you run when you have absolutely no idea where you are?
