Liverpool skyline is calling with promise of top half marathon

Alan Rothwell is looking forward to a vintage staging of Liverpool's long-established spring half marathon – scheduled for Sunday 15 March in 2020. The BTR race director told runABC North online: "We are aiming to build upon the half marathon's reputation for a memorable city centre route that showcases many of the Liverpool's top landmarks and have renamed the event Liverpool Skylines Half Marathon.

"The Pierhead, where the race starts and finishes, is the focal point for the action – an amazingly atmospheric setting in the shadows of the Three Graces – the Royal Liver Building, the Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building.

"Along its 13.1 mile route Liverpool Skylines Half Marathon has great parkland stretches (don't miss the Palm House in Sefton Park) and a terrific final four mile stretch along the waterfront promenade. Tick off the Albert Dock, Tate Liverpool and the Museum of Liverpool as you head towards the line."

The course, with its fabulous skyline vistas and amazing views across the Mersey, is just part of the race's attraction. BTR is renowned for its race day organisation and the Liverpool public comes out in full force to inspire (and amuse) runners with its incomparable humour.

Alan Rothweil is keen to underline Liverpool Skylines Half Marathon as a 'weekend away' event: "The Liverpool ONE retail centre is within walking distance as are many of the city's world famous locations including the Cavern and Walker Art Gallery. Plus Hope Street with its two cathedrals and the Philharmonic Hall. A weekend with family and friends really lets you enjoy the unique Liverpool vibe."

The BTR team expects a 5,000 plus field for its big March race and Alan Rothwell promises entrants will enjoy a special occasion: "A spring half marathon has a a quality all of its own – you train hard over the winter months inspired by thoughts of the race day buzz and the support of the crowd and your fellow runners. Then the finish line, a well-deserved medal and a brilliant feeling of achievement. That really sets you up for the rest of the year."

Alan shared the disappointment of runners who missed out on another big North West race when the English Half Marathon was postponed recently. BTR staged an impromptu 13.1 mile run around their Wirral Half Marathon course on the original date of the English Half Marathon for disappointed runners and attracted an enthusiastic group eager to test their training.

BTR has followed that up by offering a £5 discount to all 2019 English Half Marathon entrants for the 2020 Liverpool Skylines Half Marathon. This discount offer will remain open until 5.00pm on Monday 30 September (use code btrehm5).
