Hull's Headscarf Hustle!
Entries remain open for those wanting to be part of this inspiring event on Hull’s waterfront...
Hull’s waterfront will come alive this weekend as runners and walkers prepare for the Headscarf Hustle 5K on Sunday 8 March, with organisers confirming there is still time to sign up and be part of the International Women’s Day celebration.
Starting and finishing at Sammy’s Point beside The Deep in Hull, the inclusive 5K event invites participants to take on the Humber riverside route. The event is not timed, making it accessible to all abilities!
Organised by Fitmums and Friends on behalf of the Headscarf Revolutionaries, the Hustle aims to raise awareness and funds for the campaign to build a permanent statue in the city honouring the women who transformed fishing safety in the 1960s. Led by Lillian Bilocca, the Headscarf Revolutionaries successfully campaigned for vital industry reforms following a series of tragic losses at sea, leaving a legacy that continues to resonate across Hull.
Every entrant receives a handmade headscarf included in the £10 entry fee, echoing the symbol worn by the original campaigners. Around 400 scarves are created each year by local volunteers, with a new design unveiled annually in tribute to the movement’s enduring spirit.
Adding to the occasion, Jessie, known to viewers from The Traitors, is set to take part, while BBC Look North presenter Peter Levy will officially start the event.
Proceeds will support both Fitmums and Friends and the statue campaign, with organisers urging the community to get involved, pull on a headscarf and help make history visible.
