Trails To Test You
Head to Glentress Forest this November and challenge yourself on the stunning trails...
Head to Glentress Forest this November for trail races that are stunningly beautiful but offer a challenge. The Glentress Trail 10K and Half Marathon will take place on 16 November as part of a fantastic weekend of races with the Tweed Valley Ultra the following day.
Glentress Forest is described as the 'Gateway to the Tweed Valley Forest Park' situated between Peebles and Innerleithen and just one hour away from Edinburgh, the location is second to none. Perhaps more renowned for its mountain biking, Glentress also offers a superb array of forest trails, making it a fantastic location for trail running.
Climbing high to the top of Glentress Forest, the half marathon incorporates exciting sections of the blue, red and black mtb trails. With named sections such as 'The Goat Track' & 'Spooky Woods', organisers have also added a few of their own; The High Hut, Roller Coaster, Evil Climb & The Home Straight. Speaking about the course, organisers say: "It offers an awesome blend of terrain from hard packed gravel trails, twisting forest singletrack, long winding climbs, exhilarating descents and stunning panoramic viewpoints!"
The 10K course climbs 'slightly' higher than it has done in previous years but the breathtaking views and thrilling descents will be worth the effort. With nearly 400m of ascent packed into the initial 6K, this will be quite a challenge!
Organisers say: "We've added sections of the blue mtb trails which gradually wind their way up through the forest, leading to the infamous 'Spooky Wood' climb with its numerous switchbacks. Topping out at 480m, reaching 'The High Point' of the course will be a leg and lung burner!"
Those who have taken part in the past have had great experiences, Sam Newington says: "Such a brilliant event - thank you so much for such a fantastic day." Louise McCracken agrees: "Wow! "Loved it. It was brilliant. Can't wait to do it again. Great organised event. Thank you!"
